Public Law

Public Law proceedings are court proceedings where the local authority applies to the court for a Care Order or an Emergency Protection Order or a Supervision Order. This can be extremely distressing and emotional time for parents, or anyone who has been a carer of a child, and involved with Social Services. These proceedings are often at very short notice to a parent/carer and can result in a child/children being removed from their home. We are able to represent parents or carers within court proceedings and indeed correspond and negotiate with the local authority prior to the issue of proceedings in certain circumstances.

We also represent children and young people who are the subject of care proceedings. This can either be through the Children's Guardian, or young people can instruct our solicitors directly.
