The CPS, as well as prosecuting regular criminal cases, has specific departments dedicated to serious criminal offences.
The Serious Crime Group comprises two divisions – Organised Crime and Special Crime & Counter Terrorism - that work in partnership with each other, forming a central structure dealing with some of the most complex and serious cases undertaken by the CPS.

Trends in fraud may reflect the economic state of the country, technological advancements or the resources available to tackle it. Whilst those suffering financially might be more tempted to commit offences than they would in times of plenty, organized crime continues regardless. And whilst the banks may introduce measures to prevent fraud, Government agencies find their budgets squeezed at a time when fraud is making a severe impact on the economy.
